Future Classics is a playful exploration into the potential impacts of generative AI on the design process, showcasing how generative training models might be utilised not only to stimulate our imaginations, but to encourage us to think critically about the world around us. Trained on vintage IKEA catalogues from the 1950s-1990s, the series of images asks AI to build objects that meet contemporary needs, from clean energy to waste reduction, in the timeless aesthetic of IKEA's vintage collections.

The resulting images produced algae-powered lighting systems, solar-powered lunchboxes, compost systems, climate-adaptive tents, and more.

The project was showcased at the IKEA pavilion in Milan during Salone del Mobile in 2023.
